General Anesthesia and Patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis are at more risk?

Josy Asked: General Anesthesia and Patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis are at more risk?

I'm 32 years old with RA and will have a surgery for an ovarian cyst in a few days. I heard that my Gynecologist was supposed to send me to an Internist before the surgery because of my RA,if not then the Anesthesiologist probably would not want to take the surgery…but my Gyn told me that there is no time left for me to go the Internist, because the surgery is in a few days. I am wondering if it really was important for me to go to the Internist and it's there any extra risk because of my RA?
If you can help, please let me know and thank you!

Not at all Josy, this was only intended for the internist to prod and just learn on people… it has nothing to do with your RA and an Anesthesiologist is better and more qualified than an internist to knowabout who to Anesthetise icon smile General Anesthesia and Patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis are at more risk? :) .. just mention your RA to the Anesthetist befofore the surgry but it has absolutely nothing to do with RA. You are not more at risk than anyone else would be.The doctors just want to MAKE people be seen by others who are learning just so they can learn on them and you are well within your rights to REFUSE!
